A 12-BORE SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 1402, with two sets of barrels,
28in. shortened nitro barrels (both, one pair loose on action), ribs engraved 'CHARLES HELLIS. 119 EDGEWARE ROD. HYDE PARK. LONDON. W.', (one re-engraved, the other worn), 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. choke in all, treble-grip action with removable striker discs, carved stylised leaf fences, automatic safety (replacement catch), acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, brushed bright and reblued finish, 14 3/4in. figured stock including 7/8in. rubber recoil pad, weight 7lb. and 7lb. 1oz. respectively, in its leather case with provision for both sets of barrels

Provenance: We are kindly informed that the gun "is described in the Hellis sales ledger as a double barrelled side by side sidelock ejector with 2 pairs of 30" barrels, 2 triggers and 2 1/2in. chambers and that he gun was subsequently reproved for 2 3/4in. chambers in 1985.
The gun was built and placed into stock in April 1902 and held in stock until being sold in November 1912 to W. Mitchell for £30. It subsequently found its way back into Hellis's stock and was sold as a pre-owned gun (possibly as a part exchange) in August 1933 to G'aid for £25. There is nothing in the ledger regarding the shortening of both sets of barrels to 28in."
