A CASED .38 RIMFIRE POCKET-REVOLVER, MODEL'3 1/2in. ROUND BARREL WITHOUT EJECTOR', serial no. 309729,
manufactured from existing Colt 1849 Pocket parts with the addition of a new barrel, the top with traces of signature only, stepped cylinder with roll engraved stagecoach hold-up scene, open iron frame with 'PAT JULY 25 1871' and PAT JULY 2 1872' patent dates, no provision for loading gate, brass trigger guard stamped '38 CAL', brass grip-straps fitted with later natural staghorn grips, traces of nickel-plated finish but mostly stripped, together with a later wood case lined in the Continental fashion in green baize, the tray bearing an engraved brass plaque reading 'COLT 1862 POCKET NAVY .38 RIMFIRE CONVERSION 1871-72'
