A RARE .577 (2 3/4IN.) BLACK POWDER EXPRESS PERKES 1876 PATENT SELF-COCKING ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 4150,
28in. black powder only barrels with broad, raised file-cut rib, open sights with two folding leaf sights, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork with white metal sight lines and marked for 50/150, 200 and 250 yards, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', seven groove rifling, the action incorporating Thomas Perkes self-cocking patent no. 129 of 12th January 1876, use no. 243, with a 'T-bar' pivoting on the rear barrel lump rises through and behind the standing breech to act as a lifter on the hammers as the barrels are opened, the pivoting lever protruding through action bar with the underlever scalloped to accommodate and with the base of the lever with screw fastening, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding back-action locks with dolphin hammers, fine border and scroll engraving, the action bar engraved 'CHARGE 6 DRAMS CASE 577 EXPRESS', brushed finish overall, 14 1/4in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with two-piece construction pistolgrip with horn pistolgrip-cap, repaired crack at hand, rounded cheekpiece, florally engraved sling eye, horn buttplate, the toe with white metal strengthening plate, the side of the stock marked 'H.P.R 310', replacement fore-end wood, weight 10lb., in a re-lined brass-cornered oak and leather case with Holland & Holland trade label and some associated accessories, the case lid with brass escutcheon engraved 'FRANK TOBIN.
