A GOOD BRITISH OFFICER'S 1897 PATTERN SWORD IN FIELD SCABBARD, no visible serial number,
dated for 1914, with straight bright 33in. blade, the first third on both sides with broad shallow fullers and etched with arabesque panels of scrolls and the 'GRV' device, signed at the ricasso 'S. GOFF & Co' and stamped 'MADE IN ENGLAND', plated half-basket hilt pierced with the 'GRV' device and foliage, the inside of basket inscribed 'C.C. SANFORD 1914' and with erased Imperial Yeomanry marks (some tarnish and staining inside basket), in its leather field scabbard with leather sword-knot and complete with a period doe-skin lined sword bag
