29in. black powder only reproved Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels, the rib engraved '1' and 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON. SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 choke in both, some pitting, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, treble-grip action with hidden third bite, carved percussion fences, rebounding island locks, plain action and lockplates with nickel finish, the underside with 'PURDEY'S PATENT', 14 3/4in. stock including 3/8in. buttplate, fore-end with plain finish finial and iron, minor insert repairs to wood, weight 6lb. 9oz.

13179 was already noted as being in separate ownership in the early 1920s. It belonged to a Mr. Goring (died 1925), who broke the stock in 1923. At that time the length had been made out to 14 7/8in., and the gun weighed 6lb. 10oz.

Sir Archibald Orr-Ewing, 1st Baronet (4 January 1818 – 28 November 1893) was a Scottish Conservative Party politician.
The Orr Ewing Baronetcy, of Ballikinrain in the County of Stirling and of Lennoxbank in the County of Dunbarton, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 8 March 1886 for the Conservative politician Archibald Orr-Ewing. He was the seventh son of William Ewing, a merchant of Glasgow, and Susan, daughter of John Orr, Provost of Paisley.
Archibald was Member of Parliament (MP) for Dunbartonshire from 1868 to 1892
Sir Archibald was a Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dunbartonshire and for Stirlingshire. He was a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Inverness-shire and for Stirlingshire. He was the Ensign-General of the Royal Company of Archers and Dean of Faculties at the University of Glasgow
