A 20-BORE ROUNDED-BAR TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4887,
28in. nitro reproved damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'ALEXr. HENRY. EDINBURGH AND LONDON.' and with acanthus scroll detailing at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, rounded bar action, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14in. figured stock with steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with grip release catch, weight 5lb. 8oz.

Provenance: completed on the 3rd September 1880 for Col. M. Makgill-Crichton. David Maitland Makgill-Crichton was born on 20th August 1841 at Collessie in Fife. He joined the Gordon Highlanders in November 1854, was a Captain in May 1867, Lt. Col in February 1876, Colonel in May 1882. His family came from Rankeillor House near Cupar in Fife. In 1869 he transferred to the Grenadier Guards. He married Lady Margaret Pleydell-Bouverie and later died in London on the 2nd January 1907.
