AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE .360 (2 1/4IN.) BLACK POWDER EXPRESS 'NO.2 ROYAL' ROUNDED-BAR SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE, serial no. 16117,
26in. black powder only barrels, partially finely matted rib with open sights and two folding leaf sights, white metal inlaid sight lines and marked 100, 200 and 300, folding bead and blade fore-sight, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS. LONDON.', miniature rounded bar action, the standing breech with raised 'ears', elongated top strap with bolted manual safety, gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, chequered front trigger, the action, furniture and lockplates with best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral detailing, the lockplates with the makers name in elaborate cartouches, the underside with a further cartouche engraved 'CHARGE 47 GRAINS. CASE 2 1/4 INCHES', retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/4in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap, sling swivels and ebonite buttplate, weight 7lb. 10oz., in its lightweight leather case.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed as a '.360 Bore No.2 Royal' for 'Dixon'. The record is undated, but serial numbers 16116 and 16118 are both dated 1894
