for 1848-49, with octagonal damascus 25in. barrel, the top-flat with script signature in gold inlay 'PURDEY, LONDON' and with further gilt inscription in arabic forwards of the two leaf rear-sight, roughly translating as "To Hussein Ali Khan Bahadur. You want to go to war, You will be victorious", dove-tailed bead fore-sight, squared patent breech-block with gilt line and arabesque, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'PURDEY', sliding safe behind the hammer, chequered walnut half-stock with raised cheek-piece (hairline crack at wrist, escutcheon absent), iron furniture including engraved patchbox to left hand side of butt, scroll engraved heel-plate and spur, chequered pistol-grip lower tang, single set trigger, old repairs to fore-end and horn mounted bulbous ended mahogany ramrod

Provenance: According to the makers this rifle was completed on the 19th December 1849 for "The Nawabh His Royal Highness Odd Howlah" as a single-barrelled 20-bore percussion rifle with 25in. barrel.

Research would indicate this could be the Nawab of Howrah (Haora)
