A GOOD GERMAN .43 (11.15 X 60mm) MAUSER MODEL 1871 BOLT-ACTION SINGLE-SHOT JAEGER RIFLE, MADE AT OBERNDORF, serial no. 4172,
circa 1876, with 29 1/2in. barrel fully German Ordnance marked at breech and stamped 'GEBR MAUSER & CO OBERNDORF', block and blade front-sight and ladder rear-sight, the action marked on the left 'B. MOD: 71' and on the right with the date of manufacture '1876', iron mounted full walnut stock with scroll trigger-guard, the right side of the butt with crisp Crowned 'W' stamp for Kaiser Wilhelm I (who became Emperor of Germany in 1871), the left butt faintly scratched, 'CAL 43.80 / 43 SPANISH', and NOWARA / NSW', with much fading finish to barrel and with correct rod

Provenance: The Mauser Model 1871 was the first rifle model in a distinguished line produced by the company of brothers Paul and Wilhelm Mauser. It was adopted by Germany in 1871 with issue starting in late 1873. The Jaeger model was specially produced for issue to elite Jaeger regiments
