circa 1775, with 39in. barrel (probably shortened from 42in.) marked at breech 'ROMERSCHAIL NO 148', with modified sight or bayonet stud at muzzle, flat style lock with rounded and pointed tail engraved 'MANUFACTUR / DE ST. ETIENNE' (faint), detachable iron pan and rounded ring-neck cock, iron mounted full walnut stock, three spring retained barrel bands, the top band with fore-sight and incorporating the nosecap with rammer entry pipe, the left side of the butt scooped as cheek-rest to aid sighting, the right side carved with the initials 'A.E.M', numerous filled worm holes and damage
