A RARE 6mm BELLOWS-OPERATED SINGLE-SHOT AIR-RIFLE SIGNED LOWENTZ, WIEN, no visible serial number,
circa 1790, with 30in. smooth-bore brass-lined rebrowned slender octagonal barrel, dovetailed white-metal blade front sight, dovetailed adjustable rearsight with moulded foot, signed 'JOS LOWENTZ IN WIEN' in silver gilt on the top-flat, white-metal band at breech-end, moulded brass top-tang, hollow walnut full-stock with moulded borders and carved and moulded detail, internal bellows mechanism, spindle for crank with decorative brass escutcheon and turn off cover on right hand side at toe, socket for a peep-sight to front of comb (sight absent), brass heel-plate, decorative brass plate to the edge of the raised cheek-piece, complex brass side-plates, brass finger-spurred trigger guard, 'hogs-bristle' trigger with rear set, barrel release catch forward of trigger guard, complex brass escutcheon at wrist, brass fore-end tip, brass ramrod thimbles and short dummy ramrod.
