for 1937, 28 1/4in. Whitworth-steel nitro chopperlump barrels, the rib engraved E. GALE & SON. BARNSTAPLE. SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S COMPRESSED FLUID STEEL', (refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 choke in both, Edwin Smith patent self-opening system, patent no. 372035 of 5th May 1932, removable striker discs, the toplever dated '1937', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, arrow cocking-indicators, fine acanthus scroll engraving, bright and blued finish overall, 14 3/4in, boldly-figure stock including 7/8in. ebonite extension, weight 6lb. 9oz., in its lightweight leather case with E. Gale & Son Joy Street address trade label, the lid outer initialled 'R.E.P. GALE'

Provenance: The vendor has kindly informed us that this gun was made for Edward Gale (proprietor of E. Gale & Son) in 1937 and remained within the Gale family until recently, the last owner being Mr Robin Gale, Director of Gales when they closed their gun department in 1985
