circa 1895, 37 3/8in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrel, short sight rib engraved 'G. BATES. EASTBOURNE.' (rubbed), 4 1/4in. chamber, bored approx. full choke, treble-grip action, automatic safety, cocking-indicator, border engraving, the sideplate with a pond scene of duck and bullrushes with beaded bordering, bright and blued finish overall (possibly nickel-plated), 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with steel pistolgrip-cap and including 1in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with grip-catch release and horn finial, weight 11lbs. 12oz.
