A 9-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED FOWLING-PIECE, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, with rebrowned triple-staged 37in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'P. HAST, COLCHESTER', long scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action lock signed 'P. HAST', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist iron furniture except white-metal barrel key escutcheons and fore-end tip, replacement heavy-duty wood ramrod, plated repair to left cheek, fore-end split, 53in. overall, weight approximately 9 1/2lbs.

Other Notes: The Hast family of Colchester operated as gun smiths and retailers for much of the 19th century commencing with Philip Hast Snr. (1805-41), his wife, Catherine Hast (1844-48) and their son, Philip Cockerell Hast (1850-70).
