A JAPANESE NAGINATA POLEARM,
the blade possibly pre 1800, the curving 15 3/4in. blade signed on left side of the tang, false edged to the majority of the back edge and darkly stained, two 'mekugi-ana' to the 6 1/2in. tang, copper 'habaki' (traces of silvering), small oval iron 'tsuba' and fitted to a black laquered oval wood shaft of late Edo period decorated in crushed mother of pearl at the head, copper mounts, painted 'mon' to both sides near lower mount and carved finial to the tail, approx. 97 3/4in. overall
