A JAPANESE NAGINATA POLEARM,
circa 1800, with curving 18in. blade signed on both sides of the tang, false edged to the majority of the back edge, short 'hi', the blade darkly stained but with visible 'hamon' extending around the 'kissaki', single 'mekugi-ana' to the 17 1/4in. tang, copper 'habaki', small oval iron 'tsuba' and fitted with a faceted wood shaft decorated in crushed mother of pearl at the head, copper mounts and carved finial to the tail, approx. 104in. overall
