28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the ribs engraved 'HENRY ATKIN LTD. (FROM PURDEY'S) 88 JERMYN ST. LONDON. W.', and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, Beesley / Purdey style spring opening actions with revised '1909' model ejectors, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, removable striker discs, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the undersides with 'HENRY ATKIN FROM PURDEY'S.' in oval cartouches, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 16in. figured stocks (No.2 a replacement) including 1in. leather covered recoil pads, No. 2 fore-end wood split, weight 6lb. 10oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 11oz. (No.2), in a re-lined brass-cornered oak and leather case with J. Purdey & Sons gold-tooled leather trade label

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in 1925 for Major J.R. Warren.

Research would indicate this to be Major John Raymond Warren M.C. O.B.E, of the Royal Sussex Regiment.
