A CASED 11-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 4285,
for 1847, with re-browned fine damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY, 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON' (refreshed), bead fore-sight, platinum line and vented plugs at breech, scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'PURDEY' (detail lightly rubbed), figured chequered walnut half-stock with iron furniture (detail lost) and original brass mounted mahogany ramrod, complete with its makers original oak case, parchment trade-label inside lid, compartmented and lined in green baize and containing period shot and powder flasks, gun wadding, two shot measures, an oil bottle, nipple cleaner and wad-punch together with take-down cleaning rods and sundry cleaning tools, all possibly added, the 'D' ring circular handle on lid engraved 'H. HAMMERSLEY ESQ.'

Provenance: According to the makers this gun was completed in 1848/9 for Sir A. Chichester as a double-barrelled percussion gun of 12-bore with 32in. barrels
