W.' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguards, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, retaining some original colour-hardening, 14 5/8in. figured stock including 3/4in. rubber recoil pads, weight 6lb. 7oz., in their lightweight leather motor case
Provenance: The vendor has kindly provided us with the following information regarding the original owner of this pair of guns, his grandfather David George Redvers Oldham.
David George Redvers Oldham (born 1921)
David grew up on an estate near Oban on west coast of Scotland, shooting and stalking with his father. Educated at Eton before being commissioned into the Seaforth Highlanders in 1941. In 1944, he was seconded into 'Phantom', a special reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering regiment formed at the start of WWII.
Operating alongside the then Major David Niven, he took part in Operation Overlord, helping to establish German strengths and dispositions prior to D-Day. After the war he joined Wed Durlacher Mordaunt & Co, a firm of private stockbrokers, rising to become Deputy Chairman of the firm in 1971. One of David's great passions was jazz music - in the late 1940s/early 1950s he played the piano for Humphrey Lyttelton, with whom he had been at school and whose band he became part of, playing in the Savoy Hotel, London.
