A 16-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 2258,
for 1910, 28 1/2in. nitro reproved (in 1979) barrels (slightly loose), the rib and engraved 'F. BEESLEY. 2 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. PALL MALL CORNER.' and with acanthus scroll detailing at the breech-end, the tubes engraved 'WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.', also with acanthus scroll detailing at the breech-ends, engraving refreshed, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 choke in both, wall thicknesses at 17 in both, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, carved leaf fences, best fine acanthus scroll and floral bouquet engraving, the lockplates with 'F. BEESLEY PATENT. LONDON.' in scrolling banners and a crown, the underside with 'BEESLEY'S PATENT.', brushed bright and reblued finish, 14 1/2in. figured replacement stock including buttplate (slightly cast on for the left hand), weight 6lb., in its brass-cornered oak and leather guncase

Provenance: the makers have kindly supplied the following information:

F. Beesley Gun no. 2258 is listed as a 16-bore, with 28 1/2in. barrels by Whitworth, tube nos. 43734 & 43735, single trigger and built in 1910 at a cost of £41. It was sold in August 1911 to G. Jackson for £66/3/0.

This would be a best quality sidelock produced when F. Beesley was advocating the use of 16s for game shooting.
