A 16-BORE 1871 PATENT SNAP-ACTION TOPLEVER BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 12799,
for 1878, 29 7/8in. nitro reproved (London proof 2007) fine damascus replacement barrels, finely file cut rib with a banner inscribed 'P. BRILLE. ARQUEBUSIER A BRUGES', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl and 1/2 choke, incorporating Westley Richards improved toplever snap-action, patent no. 1572 of 14th June 1871, use number 2762, carved teardrop fences, rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers, removable striker bars, bar-in-wood, the fore-end meeting at the knuckle in a crab joint, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 5/8in. well-figured stock including 1/2in. ebonite extension and 5/8in. rubber recoil pad, the fore-end with Deeley and Edge patent release catch and horn finial, weight 6lb. 10oz.

Provenance: The Lot is supplied with a Westley Richards & Co. Authentication Certificate confirming that the gun was built for A. Carassale Esq. in 1878 and also a photocopy of the entry in their record books
