for 1889, 30in. nitro reproved barrels, No.1 damascus steel, the rib engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON' (rubbed) and gold-inlaid '1' at the breech end, No.2 Westley Richards Special steel replacement barrels (in 1933), the rib engraved WESTLEY RICHARDS 23 CONDUIT ST LONDON' and gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke (No.1) and 1/4 and 3/4 choke (No.2), Anson & Deeley patent treble-grip actions, patent no. 1756 of 1875, use numbers 7916 and 7919 with Deeley patent ejectors, patent no. 14526 of 1884, use numbers 661 and 662, Westley Richards patent toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details (small plug to tang No.1), intercepting sears, fine acanthus scroll engraving with some beaded bordering and shell motifs, the makers name inlaid in gold, the triggerguards with game scenes of hound and fowl (rubbed), brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14in. stocks, No. 1 a replacement, No.2 highly-figured, both with steel heel and toe plates, fore-ends with Deeley & Edge patent release catches and horn finials, No.1 reprofiled, both with some cracking to wood, weight 6lb. 2oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 7oz. (No.2), in their brass-cornered leather bound case
Provenance: We have been kindly supplied with the following provenance on the guns:
"Guns made in 1889 for Goodwyn A Hall (my great, great Uncle) - passed in the early 1900's to William Bradley Trimmer (his brother in law and my Grandfather) - passed in the late 1940's to his son, John Bradley Trimmer and then to me in 1985.
I had the guns renovated in 1986 and I have shot very little with them as I also have my Father's gun, a William Evans which I can (sometimes) shoot remarkably well with.
In 1933, while owned by William Bradley Trimmer, one gun was dropped by his son. The gun was returned to Westley Richards and the damaged damascus barrels were scrapped and new steel barrels fitted"
