for 1895, 26 3/4in. black powder only barrels with raised file-cut rib, open sights and folding leaf sight with white metal inlaid sight lines and marked for 150 and 250 yards, bead fore-sight, the breech end later mounted with a Pecar Variable 1 1/2 - 4 telescopic sight, serial no. A07738, on a quickly-detachable rail mount, the tubes engraved 'ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. LONDON', treble-grip action with carved stylised leaf fences, removable striker discs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, intercepting sears, fine acanthus scroll engraving with ornate scrolling bordering, brushed finish, 14 5/8in. boldly-figured replacement pistolgrip stock cast on for the left shoulder and with cheekpiece to the right side, fitted with original steel pistolgrip-cap, sling eyes and buttplate, together with its original highly-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece to the left side and strengthened at head, bolstered fore-end with grip-catch release, weight 9lb. 8oz. (unscoped) and 10lb. 11oz. (with scope)

Provenance: The records list the rifle as being purchased by a 'Mr Lethenago' in 1895 for the sum of £40
