A CASED 20-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARREL SPORTING GUN FOR A BOY LABELLED FOR GILLET, BRISTOL, no visible serial number,
originally circa 1815 with later conversion to percussion, octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 24in. barrel, moulded girdle at the intersection, scroll engraved top-tang, bevel-edged lock, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture and brass mounted ramrod; complete with its original oak storage case compartmented and lined in green baize and including a leather shot flask and later powder flask, the inside of lid bearing a parchment trade label for John & James Gillet, 21 Clare St. Bristol

Provenance: John and James Gillet traded from 1813-1822, then becoming James only until 1840. This shotgun was almost certainly produced by the brothers and then later converted to percussion by James
