Product Details

WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS, USA
A SCARCE .40-82 (WIN) LEVER-ACTION CARBINE, MODEL '1886 SADDLE-CARBINE', no visible serial number,
earlier production between 1886-91 and originally with a serial number below 50,000, with reblued 22in. barrel signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN USA', block and blade fore-sight, carbine ladder rear-sight, reblued slab-sided receiver with saddle-ring, external hammer, the top-tang marked 'MODEL 1886', walnut butt-stock with iron carbine heel-plate (small inlet repair to left of top-tang at head), un-serial numbered lower tang marked with patents, blued finger-lever, plain walnut fore-end with barrel-band, full-length magazine and sling swivels

Provenance: This carbine conforms with other Winchester rifles that were returned to the factory for refurbishment. If the lower tang was replaced because of damage or wear, the replacement tangs were not serial numbered. The original number has not been erased. Model 1886 carbines are scarce as only one in every two hundred guns produced was a carbine, giving an approximate production of only 800 pieces
