circa 1875, with round tapering Metford 36in. barrel signed 'METFORD PATENT 694' and 'GEORGE GIBBS, 29 CORN STREET BRISTOL', dove-tailed block only for an adjustable fore-sight, mounting base only for a ladder rear-sight, squared breech, platinum plug (nipple absent), the top-tang with a mount only for a vernier tang-sight, plain bar-action lock signed 'GEORGE GIBBS', chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock with iron heel-plate, beavertail fore-end with horn tip and no provision for ramrod, the whole with traces of finish below speckled surface corrosion
