A 12-BORE TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, LOCKS SIGNED 'PURDEY', serial no. '933' (locks numbered 6368)
28in. sleeved nitro barrels (by Westley Richards circa 1970) with unsigned rib, flats, loop and tubes numbered 933, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, toplever action likely by another with carved percussion fences and carved leaf motifs, reprofiled rebounding back-action island locks by Brazier, internally numbered 6368 and externally signed 'PURDEY', dolphin hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving, triggerguard tang numbered 933 to match the barrels,14 3/8in. figured stock, weight 6lb. 3oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that gun No. 6368 was originally built as a Bastin patent slide action gun:

There is no mention in the records of the gun undergoing any kind of factory conversion. It is most likely that the original Purdey locks were re-purposed by another in the in the building of this gun. Though the original proof marks have been defaced since being sleeved, the traces remaining would appear to date to pre1875.
