30in. nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID-PRESSED STEEL' and '1' and '2' at the breech ends, (No.1 short rib loose, No.2 with partially repaired dent), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke (No.1) 1/4 choke in both (No.2), self-opening actions, toplevers engraved '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, 'arrow' cocking-indicators, fine bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed finish, 15 1/2in. figured stocks including 1 3/4in. wooden extensions, weight 7lb., in their makers brass cornered oak and leather double guncase

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in October 1898 as a pair of single trigger hammerless ejector guns, for Colonel Collingwood.

Research would indicate this to be Col. Cuthbert Collingwood of the Lancashire Fusiliers
