A .500 (3IN.) BLACK POWDER EXPRESS SINGLE-BARRELLED TOPLEVER HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 7443,
26in. black powder only ovoid flat top barrel, matted top with a banner engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', open sights with two folding leaf sights, marked 50/150, 200 and 250 and with white metal sight lines, bead fore-sight, carved percussion fence, rebounding back-action lock with bolted hammer, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and renewed finish, 14 1/2in. figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece and horn pistolgrip-cap, fore-end with grip-catch release and horn finial, weight 7lb. 13oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed in 1882 for a 'Brooke' as a '.500 Single Rifle' with 'back action top lever rebounding lock pistol hand cheekpiece'
