A RARE BASTIN FRERES PATENT 12-BORE UNDERLEVER SLIDE-ACTION BAR-IN-WOOD PINFIRE HAMMERGUN, serial no. 6523,
30in. blued (likely damascus) barrels, the rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.' (faint), Bastin slide-action system, the underlever of push-forward form, the lever hook with built up end section, slender carved serpentine pinfire fences, non-rebounding back-action locks, the large dolphin hammers with pinfire cartridge extraction apertures, one hammer screw a replacement, border and acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates signed 'PURDEY', 15in. stock (possible replacement, chequering refreshed) including 1/2in. horn buttplate, weight 6lb. 13oz.

Notes:
The Dimension Book suggests the pair were originally built for an H. Bristowe, and were then split, with the No. 2 gun being sold to W.H. Wakefield. However, the Pattern Book suggests that both guns were completed for Shutleworth.
