A FINE 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 5081,
for 1810, with browned 32in. twist-iron barrels, both breech-blocks with silver lines and inlet with silver poincons signed in raised letters 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' together with crowns, platinum lined touch-holes, border engraved bevel-edged step-tailed locks signed below the pans 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON' (possibly refreshed), the pans themselves replaced by John Manton to a triangular trough rainproof type covered by patent 3942 of 21st July 1815, academic trophies engraved to the tail, engraved cocks, border engraved roller-frizzens with touch-hole guards, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, silver escutcheon behind the top-tang engraved with the crest of the Duke of Cambridge, iron furniture including border and trophy engraved trigger-guard bow and brass mounted mahogany under-barrel ramrod, the toe of the stock with traces of the Duke of Cambridge's inventory number '36' and retaining its W. Keith Neal collection medallion numbered 'G252'

This shotgun is listed in W. Keith Neal & D.H.L. Back's book The Mantons: Gunmakers incorrectly as a 16-bore. All other specifications are correct.
