for 1853, with 31in. twist iron damascus barrels, the broad top-rib signed 'CHARLES LANCASTER 151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON', bead fore-sight, platinum line and plugs to the breeches, engraved rib-end, fully scroll engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed within superposed banners 'C. LANCASTER, LONDON', scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammers, chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture, the lower tang with patent grip-safe, provision for ramrod (absent), complete with a period, possibly original to the gun oak storage case with brass corners, relined in green baize and re-fitted with an original Lancaster parchment trade-label, the tray with three lidded compartments containing a nipple-key in a leather wallet, period shot and powder flasks, a period spring cramp, a cap tin, oil bottle, wad-punch and a shot pouch

Provenance: Factory records indicate that this shotgun was made as a a .720 (12-bore) in 1853 for a Mr E.J. Hutchings
