28in. new nitro barrels by the makers in 1984, the rib gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 33. BRUTON STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke;
original 30in. nitro barrels with the rib gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, bore dimensions marginal and wall thicknesses below recommended minimum;
toplever gold-inlaid '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, bold Royal scroll engraving, the underside with an elaborate cartouche engraved 'ROYAL HAMMERLESS EJECTOR', brushed finish overall, 15 3/8in. figured stock (missing escutcheon), weight 6lb. 14oz. (new barrels) and 6lb. 12oz. (original barrels), in a canvas case with Holland & Holland trade label and hand written charges label (provision for one set of barrels)

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was finished at the factory on the 6th June 1905 to pair with gun no. 23547. The new barrels are recorded as having been fitted for 'Johnston' in 1984.

The vendor has kindly informed us that the gun was given to him when he was 16 by his grandfather, Col. Jack Holland, then chairman of Holland & Holland. He recalls the Colonel to be 'quite a hard man, shooting wise anyway. He taught me to be a safe shot after a few rockets'
