28in. Whitworth-steel nitro chopperlump barrels, sunken rib engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, self-opening action with removable striker discs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, brushed finish (with some external pitting), 14in. well-figured stock (minor setting cracks to rear of lockplates), fore-end with replacement wood (by the makers in 1975), weight 6lb. 3oz., in its lightweight leather motor case with Purdey accessories and instructions for use booklet, together with its original Purdey invoice and Purdey receipt, dated 5th November 1928 and a customs import document to Algeciras (southern Spain) dated 15th November 1928
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1928 for Mr D Fraser-Luckie with 28in. barrels, at a cost of £140. 15s. 0d.
The vendor has kindly supplied us with the following history of the gun:
"Second Lieutenant David George Miguel FRASER-LUCKIE
served in The Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) during the
Great War, he was discharged with Honours after being severely
wounded in Ypres. He was awarded the British War Medal and the
Victory Medal. He died in Spain in 1936. His son, 6yrs at the time, inherited the gun, which never got much use. When he passed away in 2004, his son inherited the gun and never used it"
