A FINE 12-BORE NEEDLE-FIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMERLESS SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'NEEDHAM'S PATENT', serial no. 1066,
circa 1870, with 29 1/2in. damascus barrels, the top-rib signed 'JOSEPH NEEDHAM & CO 26 PICCADILLY LONDON', the individual breeches with border engraved apertures, scroll engraved colour-hardened swing out turn-bolt breech-blocks, each with bright blued individual safety catches, the rear of each bolt marked 'NEEDHAM'S PATENT 1066', fully engraved 'butter-knife' bolt-handles with bulbous tips, fully scroll-engraved top-tang, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock with shallow carved tear-drop cheek-piece, iron heel-plate, moulded horn grip-cap with central gold escutcheon, border and scroll engraved trigger-guard tang, the bow engraved with a hunting dog, escutcheoned take-down key and horn tip to fore-end, the whole retaining a good amount of original finish
