A RARE 40-BORE SNAPHAUNCE BELT-PISTOL, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
probably Tuscan circa 1680, with tapering octagonal to round 9 1/4in. triple-stage barrel banded at the intersections, solid squared top-tang fixed from beneath, slightly curved and radiused lock with grotesque carved to the pointed tail, hammer internally fixed, steel with automatic pan cover and serpentine carved mount, walnut full-stock with carved borders around the iron furniture, long-spurred butt-cap (engraved detail rubbed), engraved trigger-guard bow with half trigger-plate, complex pierced side-plate with en-suite mount around the top-tang, turned and pierced ramrod pipes and original wood ramrod with pinned and reinforced tip, cleaned overall
