A 22-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
probably French or Belgian circa 1800, with 35 1/4in. iron barrels engraved with bordered arabesques to both breech-ends, running vine engraved to the narrow rib at breech, bead fore-sight, sighting groove to front of the vase-shaped top-tang, flat bevel-edged floral-scroll engraved locks (sears at fault on both), the engraving repeated on the fronts of both frizzens and hammers, basketweave chequered walnut half-stock with carved and moulded raised cheek-piece, engraved cap-type heel-plate, the underside of wrist carved with the mask of a 'green man' with applied glass eyes, carved and engraved trigger guard bow and tang, the chequered panel at the fore-end inlet with a white-metal abstract engraving of a tear-drop terminating in a fish head, moulded and engraved ramrod throat combined with the fore-end cap, roll ended ramrod thimble (only one remaining) and replacement wood ramrod
