AN EXTRAORDINARY 9-BORE FLINTLOCK RIFLE FOR DANGEROUS GAME, THE LOCK SIGNED 'REA', no visible serial number,
of composite construction probably assembled circa 1840, with two stage earlier 51in. heavy twist-iron barrel, witness marks on the right hand side-flat from previously soldered key-loops, bead fore-sight, the top of breech fitted with a large tunnel rear-sight with adjustable peep aperture, earlier military type lock probably from a Brown Bess musket and signed 'REA', heavy hardwood half-stock in the English style chequered at the wrist, iron furniture, plain trigger, two iron bossed apertures in the underside of the fore-end possibly for a mount, two barrel-keys and horn fore-end tip, no provision for ramrod, weight approximately 22lbs.

Other Notes: According to the vendor, this enormous rifle was assembled for an Indian Army Officer who used it to 'snipe' tigers from the safety of a local Maharaja's fort
