Product Details

JOHAN STENEVAD, JONNY WALKER NILSSON & OTHERS, SWEDEN
A FINE EXHIBITION QUALITY SAMI-KNIFE, 'THE MAMMOTH',
with a 3 1/2in. mosaic damascus blade by Mattias Styrefors, the traditionally shaped hilt formed in three segments separated by polished white metal bands, the front and back pieces of fossilised whale-tooth finely engraved by Jonny Walker Nilsson, the centre section of fossilised mammoth-tusk and scrimshawed with depictions of woolly mammoths by Viveca Sahlin, the pommel with small white-metal stud and an inset gemstone to the right hand side, complete with its moulded leather scabbard signed 'Stenevad' and suspension loop fixed with a carved mosaic damascus stud, unused

Other Notes: Described by Johan Stenevad as 'the best knife I have ever made', this tour-de-force of some of the best knife artisans Sweden has to offer took Jonny Walker Nilsson over 25 hours to engrave the impossibly hard fossilised sperm-whale tooth section; it taking fully three cuts to engrave rather than the usual two. The centre section features some of the best work by the celebrated female scrimshaw artist, Viveca Sahlin
