A MAMELUKE-HILTED BRITISH INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number, circa 1850, with curving pipe-backed 31in. spearpoint blade false edged for the last 8 1/2in. (heavily cleaned), gilt brass cruciform cross-guard with carved borders and button quillions, smooth ivory grips of typical form (some age cracking and small losses to left hand panel), the gilded grip-straps with carved decoration complete with its lozenge cross-section iron scabbard with gilt-metal mounts including drag and twin loose suspension rings
