WILLIAM EVANS 12-BORE BOXLOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 16966, 26 1/2in. nitro barrels with sunken rib engraved 'WILLIAM EVANS. 63 PALL MALL. ST. JAMES'S. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 choke in both, treble-grip action with carved fences, automatic safety with inlaid 'SAFE' detail, border and partial acanthus scroll engraving retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14in. figured stock including 91/6in. ebonite extension (cast off towards central vision), weight 6lb. 5oz., in a brass-cornered oak and leather guncase with William Evans trade label, the lid stamped 'J.S. MELLOR, 7TH DRAGOON GUARDS.'

Provenance: Captain John Stuart Mellor, 7th (Princess Royal's) Dragoon Guards, served with the B.E.F. in France and Flanders from 13 October 1914 in 'A Squadron'. He was wounded on 14 December 1916 and again on 1 April 1918.
