circa 1878, with heavy round 28in. barrel, the top marked 'SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN.' and 'OLD RELIABLE' in a cartouche, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, the base signed 'R.S. LAWRENCE PATENTED FEB. 15 1859', falling block action, the left hand side marked 'SHARPS RIFLE CO PAT APR 6 1869', solid top-tang drilled for aperture sight, straight hand walnut butt-stock with semi crescent heel-plate, under-lever forming the trigger guard, double set triggers and walnut splinter fore-end
