A .577-450 MARTINI HENRY SPORTERISED RIFLE BY WESTLEY RICHARDS FOR THE Z.A.R. CIRCA 1896, serial no. 32320, with 33 in. Birmingham proofed barrel with block and blade front-sight, and ladder rear-sight. the barrel marked 'HENRY RIFLING' in front of the sight and 'WESTLEY RICHARDS' behind, the knoxform stamped with dated triangle '1898', the rifle is fitted with Francotte detachable Martini action, right-side of the body stamped 'MADE ESPECIALLY FOR THE Z.A.R. and on the left with the makers name 'WESTLEY RICHARDS' and triangle trademark, iron mounted two piece walnut stock, the forend cut back to 13 1/2 in. This is one of a large quantity of rifles supplied by Westley Richards to the Z.A.R. Zuid Africa Republic, or Transvaal in the run up to the Boer War
