WILLIAM EVANS (FROM PURDEY'S) 12-BORE TOPLEVER PIGEON / WILDFOWLING HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4622, for 1899, 28 1/8in. sleeved nitro barrels, rib engraved 'WILLIAM EVANS (FROM PURDEY'S) 63 PALL MALL. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, treble-grip action, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks, bead and crosshatch engraving, brushed finish, 14 1/2in. figured semi-pistolgrip stock including horn buttplate, weight 7lb. 6oz.
Provenance: The vendor has kindly supplied photocopied from the makers records, the day book listing the gun as one of two '2 3/4in. Kynoch 12 CF top bar hammer guns 32in. D.B.' dated 'OCT 30/99' and sold to 'Mr Wallis 8 12/00'.
The order book dated Nov. 8th 1900, reads:
