BATE .22L (CONVERTED) SINGLE-SHOT TOPLEVER HAMMERLESS NON-EJECTOR RIFLE, serial no. 8611, Circa 1900, converted from .303, 28in. 2-stage octagonal barrel with multi-faceted breech-end, ramp-mounted bead fore-sight, standing-notch rear sight with two folding leaf sights marked for 100, 200 and 300 yards and with white-metal inlaid sight-lines, the top flat engraved 'G. BATES. 132. STEELHOUSE LANE. BIRMINGHAM.', carved teardrop fences, automatic safety with engraved 'SAFE' detail, elongated top-strap, border engraving with very slight traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece and steel pistolgrip cap, weight 7lb.
