circa 1844, with octagonal 4 1/2in. barrel, the right hand top-flat signed 'THOS COOK', the left 'SHEPTON MALLET' (all rubbed), the top-flat itself carved with a full-length sighting groove terminating in a white-metal fore-sight bead, articulated under-barrel rammer, two-part open iron frame with wedge barrel key, the top half-rib engraved and fitted with a notch rear-sight, plain cylinder with flash guards for the nipples, spurless hammer with side safe spring, guarded trigger and chequered walnut butt with iron cap and white metal shield shaped escutcheon to wrist, minor traces of finish in sheltered areas
