A .451 WESTLEY RICHARDS MONKEY TAIL CAPPING BREECH LOADING CARBINE, CIRCA 1875, serial no. C589, 25 in. Birmingham proofed barrel, dovetailed blade front-sight and carbine pattern ladder rear-sight, the breech stamped with the legend 'WHITWORTH PATENT', and the action lever marked 'MANUFACTURED BY WESTLEY RICHARDS', the lock stamped to the centre 'WESTLEY RICHARDS', iron mounted full walnut stock, one area of heavy pitting to the barrel the nipple bolster damaged, the action lever distorted and a repaired crack to the stock between the sidenails, the rod an old replacement.
