A .577 PATTERN 1853 ENFIELD THIRD MODEL THREE BAND PERCUSSION RIFLE TO THE MIDDLESEX VOLUNTEERS, CIRCA 1858 issue no 372, with 37 1/2 in barrel the breech profusely Ordnance marked, fitted with military pattern sights, the borderline engraved lock with the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and '1858 TOWER' to the centre, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, the butt stamped with the W.D. Pimlico roundel dated 1862 together with a 2nd class stamp, indicating the rifle was refurbished at the Governments Pimlico Depot in 1862 and downgraded to 2nd class before issue to the volunteers, the butt-cap tang engraved 'V / Mx 26 / 372' showing the gun was issued th the 26th company Middlesex Rifle Volunteers gun no. 372, the 26th were the Customs House Company, barrel slightly shortened, breech plug not correctly fitted, and hammer screw and rammer missing, good stock
