A 14-BORE FRENCH DOUBLE BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY DUMOND OF VALENCE, CIRCA 1855, serial no. SH6063, with 32 in. barrels with bead front-sight, attractive ribbed breaches, the top rib engraved in relief 'CANONS DE SURETE', border-line engraved locks with stepped rounded tails, both totally covered with hunting scenes, the left lock signed in gold with the retailers name 'DUMOND' and on the right lock 'VALENCE', the hammers engraved with a leaf pattern, iron mounted walnut half-stock, the fixed breech, trigger-guard, butt-cap tang and tail-pipe all engraved with leaf patterns, replacement rod, in its day this was a top quality gun
