A 577/450 MARTINI HENRY MK II ARTILLERY CARBINE, CIRCA 1876, serial no 4131, with 21 in. barrel struck with Birmingham Ordnance proofs at breech, fitted with ladder rear-sight, and block and blade front sight, the action bearing the Crown V.R. B.S.A. & Co. cyphers dated 1876, two piece walnut stock, the butt impressed with an Enfield roundel, and fitted with a brass marker disc, stamped 'R.I.C. 4131' Royal Irish Constabulary, the forend with two barrel bands top band with bayonet lug, the barrel has a filled saw cut at breech, and as typical there is an Ordnance repair to last 1 1/2 in section of the butt, the carbine was originally made by B.S.A. & Co in 1876 as Mk II rifle and converted at a later date to a Mk II artillery carbine at Enfield.
